June 15 update

Warning: sideways pictures you will have to turn your head.ng to still protect the plants. It does not look very good but we think it will keep things from getting eaten. I might have let my guard down except that I've seen deer droppings, the sunflowers are getting eaten and teachers have seen crowds of deer on campus recently.
Alex said,"We have only been out of school for three days and look how much has happened. I can't wait to see what the garden looks like when it's my turn to take care of it at the end of the summer."
The new batch of radishes has sprouted.

The chocolate bell pepper is getting quite large.

We have at least 4 pea pods and plenty more blooms.

You can see the dried up flower still on the end of this pod.

There are TWO beautiful white and purple blossoms on the eggplant and several more that are nearly ready to open.

Some of the sunflowers are doing really well.

Others have been eaten.

There was a little toad enjoying the pool of water near the faucet. It was hot enough I wished that I could join him.

Garden Update 6/9

We put the tomato cage to help the tomato grow through the cage. But we accidently snapped off a tiny bit of the tomato plant and some of the roots snapped. The bad thing was that there were 13 buds on the one that was snapped off.

I took a picture of the tomato plant because it looks like the strongest plant in the garden. I think it's the strongest because tomato plants grow really fast and we've been watering it a lot and it has quite a few buds on it.

We snapped off the top of one of the red basil plants to start and experiment to see if the one we snapped off will grow into a bush. We think it will.

The pepper is huge! We planted a potato in the garden. We are going to pick the radishes today for Portfolio Picnic. The carrots grew a few inches. The watermelon, we think, died. It looks like it's not doing very good. The Japanese melon is big.

Garden Update 6/8

The tomato is a little bigger. It's not red yet but the plant's growing strong. There are three tomatoes.
The leaves on the red basil are turning yellow.

One of the radishes got so big that it broke/cracked. We are going to pick them on Wednesday for Portfolio Picnic. We wonder what they taste like, they look good!

The bean has a lot of flowers and it is budding. We're looking forward to having beans.
The peas are wrapping around the string that they grow up on to. The fennel is, some leaves are doing good and some leaves aren't. The eggplant has new buds. We took the sunflowers out and we are going to plant the potato plant where the sunflowers used to be. The sunflowers around the lamppost look the same as when we planted them.

6/7 update

Over the weekend so many things grew really big and were blooming. There are flowers on the peas. The flowers are white.
There is a pepper and it is really big. The pepper is about 1 inch tall.

The basil was flowering so we picked the flowers off so that it wouldn't taste bad. The tomatoes are huge. We have more tomatoes on different bushes. The radishes are like 1 1/2 inches wide and 1 1/2 inches tall. We are going to eat anything that is ready on Friday.

6/3 Update

The basil is getting ready to flower. There is a praying mantis on it and I do not know if it is good.

The old branches on the fennel are becoming dead and the fennel will still be very floppy if we untie it.

The stevia has two white flowers. I'm wondering what the white flowers on the stevia means.
The cucumber has two ginormous leaves and two more huge leaves in the middle. The radishes keep getting bigger. The sunflowers in our newspaper pots are huge! The strawberries have dead buds on them. There were ants on the eggplant and we poured water on the ants that were on the watermelon. I wonder what the ants are doing and why do they like the watermelon so much. Kate's bean has a bunch of buds.

6/2 update

We looked at the old pictures of the garden and it has grown A LOT!! We have put string on a stick so the peas can climb up the string. We are hoping that it will have peas that we can eat. And we are hoping that they will be yummy.
These sunflowers were growing. The stem was red and the leaves were green. The cup was made out of newspaper. We are planting these with the preschool so that when we come back in the fall we will be welcomed by our sunflowers.
The Red Rubin basil is very tall. We hope that it will be very good. We hope it will be ready soon.
The Japanese melon is doing well. It is reaching towards the sun. The carrots' leaves have changed shapes from grass-like shapes to parsley-looking leaves. The other watermelon has ants all over it. We think that the Lincoln tomato has been pollinated because we think we see a little tomato. The second bell pepper bloomed. We picked out one cucumber because the other one was stronger. The Lima bean plant has flowers, too. We can see the balls on the radishes that are poking out of the ground.

Garden Update 6/1

The peppers flowers are blooming. They are white and pretty.

The tomatoes have grown a bit bigger. None are red yet.

The radishes look like marbles and they're humongous. The leaves are really big.
The other tomato plant has two flowers. The fennel isn't standing up again and the aphids left the peas because Andrea put natural aphid repellent on them. It's made of soap, cooking oil, and water. The aphids aren't there any more. We're trying the aphid repellent on the eggplant. The carrots look different, the leaves are changing on top. They look like parsley.
